Police Ask for Public's Help in Solving a Homicide

Sacramento Police Homicide Detectives are asking for the public's help in locating the suspects responsible for the homicide of Gonzalo Sanchez (male, DOB 09/13/80).  Mr. Sanchez died at the U.C. Davis Medical Center on June 1, 2000 as a result of the injuries he received during a shooting.

At approximately 9:55 p.m. on May 30, 2000, Sacramento Police Officers responded to 47th Street and 13th Avenue regarding a shooting.  The first officer on scene noticed a dark colored vehicle parked in a vacant lot on the northeast corner of 47th Street and 13th Avenue.  The vehicle's headlights were on and the vehicle was racing with the wheels spinning and churning up dirt.  Officers ordered the driver to turn off his vehicle.  The driver did not comply with officers' orders.  As officers approached the vehicle they noticed the driver's right hand was concealed.  Fearing the driver might be armed, officers called for the S.W.A.T. Team.

S.W.A.T. Officers responded and tactically removed the driver from the vehicle without further incident.  As the driver was removed, it was determined that he was unconscious and had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.  The driver was transported to the U.C. Davis Medical Center where he later died.  The driver has been identified as Gonzalo Sanchez.

The suspects have been described by a witness as four male Hispanics.  One of the suspects was said to be in his late teens or early 20's, approximately 5'8", stocky build, short dark hair, wearing a light colored basketball jersey, and dark pants.  The suspects vehicle is described as a dark colored, early 70's model, two-door Chevy Impala, with an unknown license plate.
