On Thursday, June 20, 2000, beginning at 12:00 p.m., "Justice for Janitors" is planning a demonstration in Chavez Plaza Park. Expected in the plaza are four hundred to eight hundred participants representing local janitors, CSEA members, and members of the Central Labor Council. The group is planning to march from Chavez Plaza Park to Crocker Park.
The route for the march is expected to proceed southbound on 9th Street, westbound on Capitol Mall, southbound on 3rd Street to Crocker Park. The Sacramento Police Department will be facilitating the safe flow of traffic and will provide safety to the participants and public during the demonstration. The demonstration is scheduled to conclude at 2:00 p.m.
The Sacramento Police Department asks for the public to take alternate
routes of travel during this time period to avoid downtown congestion and
to avoid unnecessary delays.
