 Suspects in custody
from officer involved shooting on July 25, 2000
Sacramento Police Department detectives have taken into custody the two remaining outstanding suspects involved in the felony assault of a police officer and car burglary that occurred on July 25, 2000.  The suspects taken into custody have been identified as Xia Xiong, male 21 years of age, and Yang Thao, male 18 years of age.

On July 25, 2000, at approximately 2:53 a.m. suspect Xiong was parked on Chicory Bend Court awaiting suspects.  Sacramento Police Officer Corey Johnson was in foot pursuit of two suspects wanted for car burglary.  As Officer Johnson confronted a juvenile suspect at the passenger door of the vehicle described as a 1994 Honda Civic, suspect Xia Xiong started the vehicle and intentionally struck Officer Johnson with the vehicle.  Officer Johnson landed on top of the front hood and was able to fire his weapon to prevent further injury.  A juvenile suspect in the vehicle was struck by the shot fired by Officer Johnson and he was later taken into custody at a local hospital.   The juvenile's injury is not life threatening.  Officer Johnson was treated at a local hospital and later released.  A fourth suspect involved was later taken into custody at the scene as a search was initiated.

Photographs of the suspect's Xia Xiong and Yang Thao are included in this release.
