Beginning October 17th 2000 and running through October 20th 2000 the program, “Another Choice, Another Chance Drug Store,” will take place at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd., in Building D. There will be two sessions a day from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This presentation provides nine interrelated dramatic skit demonstrations and lectures exposing young minds to the insidious nature of illegal drug consumption and dealing. This program targets youth in the effort to prevent needless deaths, drug addiction, violence and jail incarceration. The Drug Store first made its debut in Sacramento in 1996 to address the problems of substance abuse, violence, HIV and injury among youth. To date, the Drug Store has educated more than 8,000 youth throughout Sacramento and Placer County. This year it is projected an additional 2000 youth will be reached.
Each participant will visit nine separate stations including, pharmacy, juvenile hall, courtroom, drug treatment, party/rescue, emergency room and funeral procedures. This program illustrates a clear and concise enactment of the negative consequences of drug use and abuse. Youth counseling will be available along with exhibition booths. Students and event participants will hear from anti drug representatives and community agencies who work daily addressing the challenge of substance abuse. Participating agencies include, The Sacramento City Police Department, The Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Marshals Service, Sacramento City Fire Department, California State Youth Authority, Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, United States Customs, Sacramento County Probation Department, Sacramento Superior Court, Visions Unlimited, Kaiser Hospital, U.C.
