HIGH SCHOOL CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACADEMY STUDENTS GRADUATE

The Sacramento Police Department’s High School Criminal Justice Academies will be graduating over 300 students over the next week.

On Saturday, June 1, 2002, at 1:00 p.m., students from the John F. Kennedy High School Criminal Justice Academy will be graduating at the Samuel C. Pannell Community Center at 2450 Meadowview Road.

On Wednesday, June 5, 2002, 6:30 p.m., students from the Hiram Johnson High School Criminal Justice Academy will be graduating at the Yamshon Alumni Center at California State University, Sacramento at 6000 J Street.

On Thursday, June 6, 2002, at 6:30 p.m., students from the Grant High School Criminal Justice Academy will graduate at the Ben Ali Temple, 3262 Marysville Boulevard.

The High School Criminal Justice Magnet Academy is a partnership between the Sacramento Police Department, the Grant Joint Union High School District, and the Sacramento City Unified School District.  The academy is designed to prepare students for a career in Law Enforcement and produce “productive citizens” that are eager to participate in and contribute to society.  The program began at Kennedy High School in 1990 and at Grant and Hiram Johnson High Schools in 1996.

The academy is instructed at each school by a Sacramento Police Officer and a High School teacher.  Students are required to complete 50 hours of community service every year, maintain a 2.0 G.P.A., maintain satisfactory citizenship, and attend school at least 90% of the time.

Academy staff and students will be available for comment and interview at each ceremony.
