BOMB THREAT ON CAMPUS
SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

On June 5, 2002, at approximately 2:00 P.M., Sacramento Police Department School Resource Officers received information regarding a student making a bomb threat at Burbank High School (3500 Florin Road).

School Resource Officers responded and contacted witnesses who stated that a male white, fifteen year old student  was planning on placing pipe bombs at several locations throughout the school campus.  Witnesses additionally stated that the student had drawn a map of the campus indicating where the pipe bombs would be placed.

Based on witness statements a school resource officer contacted the student on campus.  The student was found to be in possession of a map indicating his intended placement of pipe bombs.  The student was taken into custody without incident.  A search of the campus and student’s residence did not reveal any explosive devices.

The student was transported to Sacramento County Juvenile Hall and incarcerated for terrorist threats.

The Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento City Unified School District have been working in partnership since the year 2000 to provide safe campuses for the students in the district.  There are currently seven police officers and a sergeant assigned to the Sacramento City Unified School District.  The Sacramento Police Department also has resource officers assigned to Valley High and Natomas High Schools.
