On Thursday, June 27, 2002, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department’s first V.I.P.S. (Volunteers In Police Service) will be attending the fourth day of a week long training academy at the William J. Kinney Police Facility, 3550 Marysville Boulevard.
The Sacramento Police Department’s first V.I.P.S. will complete the training academy and then enter a month of field training. The volunteers are trained in crimes in progress, crime scene management, traffic control, patrol and radio procedures, and community relations.
The volunteers responsibilities will include: vacation home checks, neighborhood/business patrol, working at the neighborhood resource centers, and assisting patrol officers with traffic control and citizen transportation.
The V.I.P.S. program currently consists of 12 volunteers that will work hand in hand with the department to provide the best possible service to our community.
