BOMB HOAX
SUSPECT IN CUSTODY
On July 11, 2002, at approximately 7:30 A.M., the Sacramento Police Department received information regarding an explosive device located at 1017 11th Street (Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament). Upon arrival a male adult was pointed out as the one who left the alleged explosive device. The suspect Vincent Eheler (02-05-60) was detained.
Inside the church, officers were directed to the St. Teresa Altar where two round plastic containers with numerous wires were located. Witnesses identified Eheler as entering the church, placing the objects on the altar, and then exiting the building.
The Sacramento Police Department Explosive Ordinance Device (EOD) team was called to the scene. Further investigation revealed the object not to be an explosive device, rather a wireless meter transmitter.
Vincent Eheler was taken to the Sacramento County Main Jail and booked on charges of placing a hoax bomb.
