On 08-10-02, at approximately 12:44 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department received a telephone call from a subject stating that his roommate just fired a gun inside their residence at 2025 West El Camino Ave., #148. According to the caller, he and his roommate (Robert Vincent Gasperini-11-12-47) were in an argument over the payment of bills when Gasperini went into his room, slammed the door, then fired a gunshot. The caller stated that Gasperini has a history of depression.
At approximately 12:50 p.m., Sacramento Police Department officers arrived and while attempting to secure the scene two additional shots were heard from inside #148.
The Sacramento Police Department S.W.A.T., Negotiation, and E.O.D. teams were called to assist. The surrounding residences were evacuated.
At approximately 3:45 p.m., two additional shots were heard from inside #148.
At approximately 7:47 p.m., Sacramento Police Department negotiators were able to convince Gasperini to exit the residence. Gasperini was taken into custody without incident. A .357-caliber revolver was found inside the residence.
Gasperini was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance by Sacramento City Fire Department personnel. This was due to statements made by Gasperini that he took a large amount of a prescription medication prior to the arrest. Once medically cleared, Gaperini will be incarcerated at the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges of negligent discharge of a firearm.
