48 HOUR SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT PRESS RELEASE

The Sacramento Police Department will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint operation on Saturday, September 7,  2002, in the downtown area of the City.  Traffic flowing through the checkpoint will be contacted by uniformed officers who will be checking for alcohol or drug impaired drivers, and also checking all drivers for valid drivers’ licences.

The purpose of these checkpoints is to remove the DUI and unlicenced drivers from our streets, to inform the driving public of the dangers of drinking or using drugs and driving, and to diminish the amount of pain, suffering, and death that result from driving under the influence.

Approximately two hours prior to implementation of the checkpoint, there will be a press release noting the location and approximate duration of the checkpoint.

If you have any questions contact Sergeant Lester at 277-6002.
