BARRICADED SUSPECT ARRESTED

On October 3, 2002, at approximately 8:16 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department received an anonymous phone call stating that 2701 50th Ave was going to be the location of a drive-by shooting.  Sacramento Police officers responded to the location to check the well being of the occupants.

At approximately 8:34 a.m., officers arrived and contacted a female inside the residence.  Further investigation revealed that a male subject was also at the residence inside a bedroom.   Officers attempted to contact the subject but he would not exit the bedroom. The subject was identified as the suspect in an assault with a deadly weapon incident involving a handgun that occurred on the prior evening in the south portion of the city.  The suspect was identified as Anival Trujillo.  Trujillo was identified as being a gang member and  possibly in possession of a handgun.   With this information, officers attempted to set up a perimeter around the house when Trujillo was seen jumping out the bedroom window of the residence.  Officers were able to contain Trujillo to the backyard of the residence.  The female resident, who was the suspect’s girlfriend, was removed from the residence and detained for her possible involvement in the assault that occurred the night before.

The Sacramento Police Department S.W.A.T., Negotiation, and E.O.D. teams were called to assist.   The surrounding residences were evacuated and the nearby Woodbine Elementary School decided to end classes for the day.

After checking the backyard of the residence with the robot and S.W.A.T. personnel, officers believed that Trujillo re-entered the residence.  The S.W.A.T. team and Negotiators unsuccessfully attempted to make verbal and phone contact with the suspect.

At approximately 4:04 p.m. tear gas was deployed inside the residence.  Trujillo came to the front window of the residence and indicated he wanted to surrender. Trujillo was taken into custody without incident. Several handguns were located inside the residence.

Suspect: Anival Trujillo- D.O.B.-05-27-1980.  Suspect is on active felony probation.

Trujillo was incarcerated at the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Street Gang Terrorism, and Shooting at an Occupied Dwelling.
