ASSAULT SUSPECT ARRESTED

On October 6, 2002, at approximately 4:29 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department received a call to the area of 24th Ave. and Martin Luther King Blvd. regarding a suspect with a shotgun.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., officers arrived and contacted two victims who stated that they were involved in a dispute with a male black adult who had a shotgun and used the “stock” of the shotgun to strike them in the head.   Witnesses stated the suspect entered 3812 24th Ave. with the shotgun.  Officers surrounded the residence.  Police personnel unsuccessfully attempted to make verbal and phone contact with the suspect.  The S.W.A.T., Negotiation, and E.O.D. teams were called to assist.  The surrounding residences were evacuated displacing approximately six residences.

Negotiator personnel contacted the suspect’s wife who stated that the suspect had called her several times on her cellular telephone.  Officers were able to make contact with the suspect who stated he was not inside 3812 24th Ave. and agreed to surrender to police at the corner of 23rd Ave. and Martin Luther King Blvd.  At approximately 7:25 p.m., officers contacted the suspect, who was taken into custody without incident.

Suspect: Nathan Earl Lee- D.O.B.- 02-16-68.  Suspect is on active felony probation.

Officers checked the interior of 3812 24th Ave. and did not locate any weapons.

One of the victims of the assault was transported to a local area hospital where the injuries were determined to be non-life threatening.

Suspect Lee was transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail for processing; however, jail staff would not accept custody of Lee.   While being transported in the rear of a police vehicle, Lee began to violently strike the rear door with his head and upper torso.  Due to his violent behavior and the possibility that he may have been injured, the suspect was transported to Sutter General Hospital for medical clearance.  Lee will eventually be incarcerated at the Sacramento County Main Jail on two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
