Sacramento Police Department Unveils New Property Crimes Reduction Strategies

On Wednesday November 27, 2002, the Sacramento Police Department will formally unveil new strategies to combat property crimes.  These strategies will focus on targeting and arresting drug offenders who commit property crimes to support their habit and establishing a regional communication network with agencies that have regional malls.

Historically, there has and continues to be a link between the level of narcotic sales and use, with the amount of property crimes committed.  The Sacramento Police Department’s new strategy will in part focus on the these offenders and ultimately reduce the number of property crime offenses, which have increased over the last two years.

The second part of the strategy will focus on the rising level of roving theft rings which have begun to plague our retail outlets.  The Sacramento Police Department will work to establish a communications network with other agencies that have regional malls and ultimately reduce the amount of retail fraud, credit card fraud, and bulk merchandise thefts.

Supporting these property crimes reduction strategies, the Sacramento Police Department will be forming a new Street Crimes Unit, under the direction of the Special Investigations Division,  and will be modifying the duties of units assigned to the Metro Division.

Captain Jeff Schiele will be available for comment at the Sacramento Police Department’s new Public Safety Center (5770 Freeport Blvd) from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
