Police Diversity and Public Service Recruitment and Hiring Roundtable

On Tuesday, May 13, 2002, from 8:00a.m. to 8:30 a.m., there will be a brief media availability with Sacramento Police Department representatives who will be hosting a roundtable on the “Hiring in the Spirit of Service” project. “Hiring in the Spirit of Service” is a Department of Justice (D.O.J.), Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant project.  Officials from COPS, the Police Foundation, the Community Policing Consortium (CPC) and law enforcement agencies from: Detroit, Michigan; Burlington, Vermont; Hillsborough County in Tampa, Florida; and King County in Seattle, Washington; will join the Sacramento Police Department at the Regional Community Policing Institute (RCPI) in the River Oak Room located at 570 Bercut Drive.

The Sacramento Police Department is one of only five law enforcement agencies nationwide selected to participate in the project that will guide the future of recruiting, testing, and selecting police candidate throughout the country.  The purpose of this project is to evaluate and enhance the recruiting, testing and hiring practices for police officers, with primary goals to increase diversity, involve the community, and select candidates who possess the traits to become good community-oriented police officers.
