HOMICIDE

On Sunday, June 15, 2003,  at approximately 2:05 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department was attempting to move a large hostile crowd in the area of 3rd and J Streets near Denny’s  restaurant  when a single gunshot was heard within the crowd.  As individuals scattered in all directions, officers observed  two gunshot victims laying on the sidewalk on the south side of  the restaurant.  Both victims were African American males in their twenties and appeared to have sustained single gunshot wounds to their upper torso.

One of the two victims died at approximately 8:51 a.m. this morning as a result of his injuries.  The name of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.  The other victim has been identified as Jason Traylor, DOB 12/13/81, and remains in serious condition at the University of California Davis Medical Center.

Sacramento Police Homicide Detectives were called in to conduct an investigation.

At this time there is no information on the suspect(s) but detectives are currently interviewing several potential
witnesses.
