HOMICIDE
On Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at approximately 11:33 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department received a 911 call regarding a female shot in a vehicle located at 7997 Franciscan Way. Officers arrived to find a vehicle partially on the sidewalk with a female white in the driver’s seat. Fire Department personnel pronounced the female deceased at approximately 11:49 p.m. The victim had what appeared to be a gunshot would to the back. The vehicle had what looked like several bullet holes in the driver’s side door. Two passengers in the vehicle at the time of the shooting were standing by for the officers to arrive. The victim’s name is not being released pending notification of the next of kin.
Sacramento Police Homicide Detectives were called in to conduct an investigation. Homicide Detectives have learned that a group of African American male suspect(s) and the occupants of the vehicle had an exchange of words in the area of 6623 Valley Hi Drive. As the vehicle drove south on Valley Hi Drive, the vehicle was shot at several times. Gang terminology was used in the verbal exchange leading investigators to believe the shooting was gang-related. The driver was struck at least once and the passenger had to take the steering wheel and maneuver the vehicle south on Valley Hi Drive until he lost control. The vehicle came to a stop in front of 7997 Franciscan Way where he summoned help.
At this time, there is no information on the suspect(s), but detectives are currently interviewing several potential witnesses.
