HIT AND RUN PEDESTRIAN FATALITY

On June 15, 2003 11:42 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department received notification of a Hit and Run, involving a pedestrian on Richards Blvd, at North 5th.  Officers from the Department and personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department arrived on scene, and found the pedestrian had suffered fatal injures.  The pedestrian is only identified as a male white adult at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Officers from the Major Collision Investigation Team responded.  The collision is still under investigation at this time.  Preliminary information indicated the Hit and Run vehicle was traveling east bound on Richard Blvd, approaching North 5th street.  The pedestrian was crossing in the intersection near a cross walk, but walking against a red don’t walk sign.  An uninvolved vehicle, saw the pedestrian, and slowed.  The Hit and Run vehicle attempted to pass the uninvolved vehicle on the left, and struck the pedestrian.

The Hit and Run vehicle is only described at this time as a pick-up or SUV.
