The following is an update by the Sacramento Police Department related to the USDA Conference. The below listed event occurred today, June 22, 2003.
Today, at approximately 2:30 p.m., protesters
began to congregate in and around the Convention Center and Capitol Park.
These protesters came from various directions and ultimately blocked several
sections of roadway at various points of time. As of this writing,
six arrests have been made by the Sacramento Police Department relating
to this event. During this time, garbage dumpsters were overturned
in the street, at least one vehicle was vandalized by spray paint, and
the Starbucks located at 1501 16th Street had a window broken by a female
suspect who utilized a “wrist rocket” type sling shot. This suspect
was arrested for vandalism. Additional information regarding these
arrests will follow at a later press release.
