Narcotic Dealers Arrested
The Sacramento Police Department’s Narcotic Division and North Area Problem Oriented Police (POP) Officers began a narcotic investigation in May after being notified by the Grant Union School District Police Department of “street sales” of narcotics around the Grant High School Campus.
During the month of June, detectives from the Sacramento Police Department’s North Directed Enforcement Narcotic Team (DENT) and North POP teams made 30 undercover purchases of primarily rock cocaine, but also of marijuana and ecstacy. Many of the sales were made within 1,000 feet of Grant High School and, at times, when there were student-related activities at the school. Twenty-nine of the suspects were identified and arrest warrants were issued. Six of the suspects were already in custody on unrelated charges.
On July 8, 2003, officers from the Sacramento Police Department and Grant Union School District Police Department conducted a warrant sweep arresting nine of the identified suspects. The suspects were charged with a variety of narcotic related charges and charges under the Juvenile Drug Trafficking and Schoolyard Act.
On July 9, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department, along with Grant Union School District Police, will be holding a Press Conference at the Public Safety Center (5770 Freeport Blvd.) to further discuss the operation. With the exception of the two identified juveniles, photographs will be available of the arrested suspects.
