Homicide Investigation Update

On August 18, 2003, at approximately 7:25 a.m.,  the Sacramento Police Department responded to a 911 call at 2019 “F” Street regarding an assault victim.  The caller indicated that his nephew had been stabbed and was laying on the floor of the lower level of 2019 “F” Street.

Patrol Officers arrived and located a male white, later identified as Bryan Tatum, DOB 12/18/81, bleeding from what appeared to be stab wounds to his upper torso.  The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Suspect Arrested

Arrested:  Jeff Thomas,  DOB 09/04/64,  African American Male,  5'9",  190 lbs.

Suspect Thomas was arrested walking in the area of 10th /J streets in downtown Sacramento on Saturday 08/23/03 at approximately 7:30 p.m.  Homicide Detectives have tied suspect Thomas to the crime scene through physical evidence.  The murder weapon, a serrated knife, has been recovered and appears to belong to the victim.   Suspect Thomas was booked into the Sacramento County Jail for the brutal murder of Bryan Tatum.

Suspect Thomas was recently released from prison and was to report to his parole officer in West Sacramento and failed to make his first appointment.  He was listed as a Parolee At Large (PAL) and was wanted for parole violation charges.  That information was never communicated to law enforcement agencies in Sacramento County.
