On Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at approximately 3:09 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department received a 911 call regarding a shooting victim at 3931 Cottontail Way.   When Officers arrived they located what appeared to be blood on the sidewalk in front of 3920 Cottontail Way and were told that the victim had left prior to their arrival in a brown Chevy Blazer.

The suspect, identified as Ronnie Smith, male African American, DOB 09-30-52, was arrested at the scene of the shooting with the weapon.

Officers located the brown Chevy Blazer at Franklin Blvd and Valley Hi Drive.  Officers stopped the vehicle and found the victim in the rear bleeding from what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the upper torso.  The victim was transported to the U.C. Davis Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 7:20 p.m.  The victim has been identified as Raymond Henderson, male African American, DOB 04/09/51.

Homicide Detectives have learned that the victim and his wife had previously resided at 3920 Cottontail Way and were at the location to speak with their previous landlord, Ronnie Smith. A verbal argument ensued between the victim and suspect, which led to a physical altercation inside the residence.  The argument continued outside at which time the suspect entered his house and retrieved a handgun and proceeded to return back outside and shoot the victim in the leg and chest area.  The suspect was booked into the Sacramento County Jail for murder.
