Safety Day At Ethel Phillips Elementary School
On Saturday, November 15, 2003 at Ethel Phillips Elementary School located at 2930 21st Avenue, a Safety Fair is being conducted from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Safety Day is in memory of Darren Saechao, the 8-year old Ethel Phillips student who recently lost his life when a shotgun with which he was playing with accidentally discharged.
The American Leadership Forum (ALF), Mountain Valley Chapter, had recently completed a community improvement project at Ethel Phillips Elementary School by upgrading the school's field into a community park. The project was celebrated on October 2, 2003 with a community barbecue on the school grounds. After the death of Darren Saechao three weeks later, the Sacramento Police Department, in conjunction with ALF, wanted to do more and help prevent another tradedy from happening again.
This safety fair will include participation from the Sacramento Police and Fire Departments and various community based organizations. There will be police and fire department equipment displays, various safety information tables including: 911, Stranger Danger, Dog Safety, Gun Safety, Water Safety, Pedestrian Safety, Bike Safety, and Fire Safety.
Media is invited to attend.
