MURDER / SUICIDE

On Monday, May 10, 2004, at approximately 6:03 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department received a 911 call to 2717 O Street, regarding a welfare check on residents who haven’t been seen in a few days. Nearby neighbors reported music coming from the apartment, as well as the smell of a foul odor. When Officers arrived on scene, they found the apartment door locked with no response from inside. After forcing their way into the apartment, officers located a female African American adult and a female African American juvenile deceased. The adult was later identified as Cassandra Ann Dean, DOB 12-04-64; the juvenile’s name was not released due to her age.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene where they pronounced both subjects deceased. Dean appeared to have died from a self-inflicted knife wound to her neck, and the juvenile’s cause of injuries is still under investigation.

Sacramento Police Department homicide detectives were called to the scene to conduct an investigation. Homicide detectives located what appears to be a suicide note that was left by Dean.  Investigators are treating the incident as a “Murder – Suicide”.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Sacramento Police Department Communications Division at 264-5471. If you wish to remain anonymous you may also contact Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP or 1-800-AA-CRIME. You may be eligible for a $1,000 cash reward.
