Lottery Scam

The Sacramento Police Department wants the public to be aware of a lottery scam that has been occurring.

On August 27, 2004, at approximately 12:45 p.m., a female Hispanic suspect who said she needed help cashing a lottery ticket approached a female victim.  A male Hispanic suspect, who offered to help, then joined the two women.  The male offered to put up $22,000 if the victim would put up $22,000.  The three were going to split the $200,000 from the lottery ticket.  The victim agreed to put up the money and was driven to two different banks in the Franklin Boulevard and Stockton Boulevard areas by the male and female suspects.

The trio ran out of time before the Lottery office closed so it was decided that the victim would hold the bag containing the cash until the next day.  The three were to meet the next day.

When the two suspects failed to show for the meeting, the victim opened the bag and found the money gone.  The money had been substituted with cut newspapers.
