Holiday Safety Tips

The Sacramento Police Department wants to offer a few safety tips to help the public in having a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.

Vacation Safety
Have a neighbor look after your home to collect newspapers and mail while you are gone.

Lock all doors and windows before leaving.

Put your lights on a timer.

Turn the telephone ringer on low.

ATM Awareness
Don’t go to an ATM after dark.  Use an ATM inside a grocery store after dark.

Be aware who is around you.

Put your money away immediately.  Don’t carry it around in your hand, or count it.

Shopping Safety
Park smart…Park in well-lit areas, and close to your destination.

Don’t keep valuables and packages in your vehicle for all to see.

Don’t resist an armed robber.

If you carry a purse, make sure the straps are across your chest.

Deep your keys ready in your hand when going back to your car.  Don’t wait until you get back to your car to search through your bag or pocket for car keys.

Shop with a friend.  Most personal attacks and robberies will happen when you are alone and vulnerable.

Carry very little cash.

Pay attention.  Walking and talking on a cellular telephone can divert you attention.

The Sacramento Police Department wishes you a Happy and safe Holiday!
