HOMICIDE
On Sunday, December 12, 2004, at 8:18 p.m.,
the Sacramento Police Department received a 911 call regarding a shooting
victim near the park at San Jose Way and 4th Avenue. When Officers arrived
on scene, they located a male African American lying in the street that
was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was next to his
vehicle that also had sustained damage from the shooting.
Emergency medical personnel responded to
the scene and transported the victim to the U.C. Davis Medical Center where
the victim succumbed to his injuries. The victim was identified as Dwayne
Jerome Harvey, male African American, DOB 01-25-70.
Sacramento Police Department homicide detectives
were called to the scene to conduct an investigation. Homicide detectives
learned that the victim was sitting in his parked vehicle along the east
side of the park with his hazard lights flashing. The victim was approached
by an unknown assailant who fired several shots into the victim’s car.
The victim attempted to flee as he stumbled from his vehicle. The victim
took a couple of steps before collapsing in the middle of San Jose
Way. The assailant was seen rummaging through the victim’s car and pants
pockets just after the shooting. It is unknown if robbery was the motive
for the shooting at this time. Furthermore, it is unknown whether this
crime is gang-related.
At this time there is no information on
the suspect(s) but detectives are currently interviewing potential witnesses.
