“Tip-A-Cop”
On Tuesday, December 14, 2004, the Sacramento
Police Department will be participating in a “Tip-A-Cop” fundraising event
at Chevy’s Restaurant, located at 1369 Garden Highway, in support
of the Special Olympics. Uniformed Police Officers will be volunteering
their time as celebrity waiters during both lunch (11:00 a.m. to
2:00 p.m.) and dinner (5:30 to 8:30 p.m.).
The Sacramento Police Department is proud
to join with other law enforcement agencies in the area to support more
than 3,000 athletes who participate in Special Olympics programs in the
greater Sacramento area.
Eunice Kennedy Shriver started Special
Olympics in the early 1960’s when she developed a day camp for persons
with developmental disabilities at her home in Rockville, Maryland.
The first International Special Olympics games were held in 1968 at Soldier
Field in Chicago with 1,000 athletes from the United States and Canada.
Today, Mrs. Shriver’s vision has grown into one of the largest amateur
sports and volunteer organizations around the world -with chapters in every
state in America and more than 140 Countries worldwide.
