VICE OPERATION

On May 24-25 2005, the Sacramento Police Department’s Special Investigations Division (SID) conducted a prostitution enforcement operation focusing on Broadway, Stockton Boulevard, Del Paso Boulevard, El Camino Avenue, and Del Paso Park. The operation resulted in 45 arrests.

The Vice Unit coordinated the operation utilizing elements of three Problem Oriented Policing teams, the Sacramento Police Department Reserve Unit, and undercover detectives assigned to other Special Investigations Division teams. Detectives posing as “Johns” arrested 37 people for loitering for prostitution, engaging in prostitution, lewd conduct, or other miscellaneous offenses. Three of the arrestees were female juveniles with ages of 14, 16, and 17. In addition, 7 “Johns” were arrested for engaging in prostitution or loitering for prostitution. One suspect was arrested for violation of his conditions of parole.

The operation was part of a continuing effort by the Sacramento Police Department to address prostitution problems in Sacramento. These areas were selected because they are known locations where prostitutes work and to help the community with their efforts to improve the neighborhoods that surround these corridors.

Thirteen of the arrests were made on Stockton Boulevard from Mack Road to 14th Avenue. Twelve of the arrests were made in the area surrounding Del Paso Boulevard and El Camino Avenue. Nineteen of the arrests were made on or near Broadway from Alhambra to Martin Luther King Boulevard. One person was arrested at Del Paso Park.
