Fatal Stabbing
On Thursday, July 28, 2005, at 8:17 p.m.,
the Sacramento Police Department received several 911 calls reporting that
a person had been stabbed at the Sacramento Regional Transit Light Rail
Station (8400 Folsom Blvd). Patrol officers arrived within four minutes
and located the victim who was bleeding profusely from a stab wound to
his upper chest. The officers administered first aid as the Sacramento
Fire Department personnel arrived. As other officers arrived on scene
they were contacted by several witnesses. These witnesses pointed
out the responsible person and the officers detained him.
The victim succumbed to his injuries and
was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect and victim were
homeless persons who initially got into an argument in the shopping center
across the street from the RT Light Rail Station. According to witnesses,
the suspect and the victim argued over a small radio. The victim
appeared to be unarmed when the suspect stabbed him in the chest.
The suspect was identified as 47 year-old
Frank G. Alvarez. Mr. Alvarez was a resident of Sacramento, and his
photograph is not being released at this time pending further investigation.
Mr. Alvarez was arrested for murder and booked at the county jail.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his next
of kin. RT Light Rail train service was interrupted for a period
of time and at no time were any RT Light Rail passengers at risk.
