RAPE SUSPECT ARRESTED
After a month
long investigation and using current forensic technology, the Sacramento
Police Department was able to identify and arrest Juan Michael Tidwell for
the rape and kidnapping of a female, 21 years of age, who is both deaf and
mute. The incident began on September
10, 2005, at approximately 9:30 p.m. as the victim walked to the College
Greens light rail station on her way to work. Suspect Tidwell attempted to befriend the victim, using pieces
of paper and a pen as a means of communication. Eventually, the suspect pulled out a knife and forced the
victim toward a secluded location where he sexually assaulted her. Following the incident, the Forensic
Identification Unit of the Sacramento Police Department collected key pieces
of evidence from the crime scene and disseminated a composite sketch of the
suspect. The evidence was processed and submitted to the Federal Bureau of
Investigation for analysis, which ultimately led to the positive
identification of Tidwell as the assailant.
