Homicide of One Month Old Baby

On December 14, 2005, at 7:15 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department arrested Clifton Jones Sr., 29, at his home at the 5790 Wallace Avenue, on suspicion of murder of his one-month-old son, Clifton Jones, Jr.

On December 13, 2005, the victim’s mother (Janelle Dorrough) left the baby with his father for an hour.  At 3:00 p.m., the baby was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center after Clifton Jones, Sr. called for an ambulance and told medics that the baby was lethargic and unconscious.  The baby was pronounced dead at 7:00 p.m.

On December 14, 2005, at 8:00 a.m., the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office called the Sacramento Police Department to report the baby’s death as suspicious.  The death is still under investigation.

Janelle Dorrough and Clifton Jones, Sr. only had the one child together.  Janelle has 3 other children from a previous partner who do not live with her.

Clifton Jones, Sr. will be arraigned tomorrow at the Sacramento County Courthouse.
