Someone You Know Might be a Child Molester

You can make a phone call and find out if someone you know is one of California's registered sex offenders who has victimized children.

WARNING! It is illegal to use this information to commit a crime against a registrant or to engage in illegal discrimination or harassment.

Who can call?

Anyone who believes that a child may be at risk for any reason! This includes parents, organizations, non-profit groups or businesses with employees who interact with children. It even includes a single-parent mother who is concerned about a new dating partner.

You must

  • BE 18 YEARS OR OLDER
  • BE WILLING TO IDENTIFY YOURSELF
  • HAVE A REASONABLE SUSPICION THAT A CHILD IS AT RISK

To find out if someone you know is one of California's registered sex offenders who has victimized children, please call either 916-227-4974 or 916-227-3288. Hours of operation are 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

What information must I provide?

You need to have the person's name and any of the following:

  • The person's address.
  • The person's birthdate.
  • The person's social security number.
  • The person's California driver's license number.

If you don't have the above information you need to provide the person's name and at least five of the following identifiers.

  • Height
  • Weight
  • Hair color
  • Eye color
  • Ethnicity/Race
  • Description of scars, tatoos, or birthmarks
