On January 9, 2008, Rick Braziel was sworn in as the Sacramento Police Department’s 43rd Chief of Police. A combined swearing-in and change of command ceremony was held at the Community Center Theater and attended by elected city leaders, local, state and federal officials, as well as hundreds of members of the Sacramento Police Department.

During his remarks, Chief Braziel, who has been a member of the Sacramento Police Department for 28 years, pledged a commitment to solid police work with an emphasis on transparency and accountability to the community.
