LATERAL POLICE OFFICERS


Salary range: $4,216 - $5,125. The duties, benefits, salary, and educational requirements of a Lateral Police Officer are the same as those described for Police Officer.

Position Requirements:

  • Current employment as a full-time sworn peace officer in a California P.O.S.T. certified law enforcement agency.
  • Two years' experience as a full-time sworn peace officer in a California P.O.S.T. certified law enforcement agency.
  • High school diploma or GED, plus sixty semester units or ninety quarter units from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License at the time of appointment.
  • No felony convictions under California Government Code 1029.

Lateral applicants are exempt from the written exam, but must pass an oral interview. Lateral applicants go through the same background, medical, psychological, and physical agility tests as Police Cadet applicants. A Lateral, however, must submit all training and educational certificates with the initial application.
