As a Volunteer within the Police Department, you will have the opportunity
to contribute to the overall quality of service to the community.
The citizens of Sacramento have a right to expect only the best
from their police force. As a department representative, you are
asked to make a commitment to providing your best service to the
Department and to the community.
Volunteers provide investigative assistance, technical assistance,
office/clerical assistance, as well as other support services. Opportunities
are available in most divisions of SPD. The minimum age is 18 years.
There is no maximum age limit. All applicants must complete a standard
department Pre-Employment Application before they can be considered
for assignment.

VIPS- Volunteers in Police (Patrol) Service
The Sacramento Police Department is proud to have a newly formed
VIPS program made up of citizens from our community. VIPS works
hard volunteering their time towards the betterment of their police
department and the community they live in. Many of the service they
provide is working on the Bicycle Rodeo/ Helmet Safety program,
various community/ police sponsored events, neighborhood patrol
in a PT ("PD") Cruiser, and assisting police officers.
