WOMEN IN LAW ENFORCEMENT

In Their Own Words...

Lieutenant Gina Haynes

I am currently the Lieutenant in charge of the property crimes section responsible for the financial crimes unit, the robbery and burglary units and the vehicle crimes unit. I have been with the Sacramento Police Department for almost sixteen years, I originally began my career as a Police Officer in England walking a beat and performing Community Policing as Robert Peel had intended. I am very happy to see the adoption of Community Policing into this Country as it brings us closer to the community.

This is a rewarding profession, it doesn't always appear that way, but law enforcement is a close, united family and knowing that you have helped and made a difference in a person's life is a real achievement. Women have come a long way in a short time in this profession and I am proud to be helping to lay the stepping stones which will allow those that follow to have an easier path to tread.

Detective Vonda Walker

I am currently assigned to the Sexual Assault Child Abuse Unit. I primarily investigate sexual assault and child abuse cases involving juveniles under the age of 14. I have had assignments in Patrol, Field Training, Problem Oriented Policing, Neighborhood Policing and Acting Sergeant in Investigations.

I obtained a B.S. Degree from Weber State University and a M.A. Degree from Idaho State University prior to joining the Sacramento Police Department. I enjoy working with children and giving back to the community. I am a board member for Sacramento Police Athletic League and Kops ~N~ Kids. I also teach Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.), to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students on my own time. It is exciting to be a part of one of the Nations leading Police Departments. I have enjoyed working for this organization for the past 13 years. Our department has combined policing with cutting edge technology thus affording officers and civilian employees the opportunity to experience career and personal growth, while providing a constant professional learning environment.

Officer C.D. Peletta

I am a 12-year veteran of the Sacramento Police Department, currently assigned to the Patrol Division as a Field Training Officer and Drug Recognition Expert. I served 4 ½ years as a Recruit Training Officer assigned to the Police Academy where I became a P.O.S.T. Master Instructor and Range Master, specializing in training with the Remington Model 870 Shotgun. I am also a Senior Arrest, Control, and Baton Instructor for our department. For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to be in law enforcement, and today I couldn't imagine doing anything else. My career in law enforcement exemplifies what my father and my mentor, Corporal Dan Deleon have always instilled in me: Strength, honor, and courage.

Officer Luanne Holmsen

I have been with the Sacramento Police Department since 1993. I have been fortunate enough to work in various areas of the department such as; Dispatcher, Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Problem Oriented Policing Officer, a member of the special response team and weapons of mass destruction for Y2K, and now a member of the mounted patrol unit and the training coordinator for that unit. Once I became a Police Officer, I soon realized that there was no other career I would rather do. A career in law enforcement offers me a varied and stimulating work environment. This career gives me the chance to work independently or as part of a team, builds confidence and provides the ability to engage both mind and body. When I graduated in 1992 with a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice, I had no idea how rewarding my career choice would be. I love my current position as a mounted officer. It has allowed me to join work with my favorite sport. My partner is "Ted" and he has shown me how demanding and rewarding an animal partner can be.

Dispatcher Pam Nuetzman

I have been working as a Police Dispatcher for 18 years. I first decided to 'try' the job, just to get a foot in the door with the Police Department. It seems it has turned into a career! The duties we perform can change on a daily or hourly basis, depending on the emergencies. Our division has a 10-week training academy and on-the-job training, giving opportunities to learn. Dispatching is such an unusual and challenging job, it is not something that just anyone can do, but can be very rewarding. I can't think of anything else that I could have chosen that could be more interesting or challenging.

Community Service Officer Cassandra Cisneros

Having a father who was a Deputy Sheriff and a mom who was dispatcher, the law enforcement field was a natural progression for me. I have been a Community Service Officer with the Sacramento Police Department for seven years. My assignments have been varied and interesting; those include Patrol, our Training Unit, Gang Unit, Auto Theft, Crime Alert, and my current assignment, the Warrants Unit. I have been privileged to work with many wonderful people from whom I have learned so much! I have a deep love and respect for law enforcement and I cannot think of anywhere else that I would rather be working.
