Permits FAQ

Alarm Permit

If you are planning to install or currently have an alarm unit in your home or business, you must have a valid alarm permit on file with the Sacramento Police Department Alarm Unit. For further information, refer to Sacramento City Code - Title 8 - Chapter 8.36.060. All residential and business alarm permits are valid for three years and must be renewed.

To begin the application process for an alarm permit, print, complete, sign and remit the Alarm Permit Application along with a $40 check to:

Sacramento Police Department
Alarm Unit

The activation of an alarm system through mechanical failure, malfunction, improper installation or maintenance, or the negligence of the owner, lessee, or his/her employees or agents shall constitute a false alarm. Please see the attached Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) flyer for information on major causes of false alarms, how to avoid false alarms, and who to call if you find evidence of criminal activity or an unauthorized intrusion.

The following fee schedule will apply to false alarm responses by the Sacramento Police Department within a 12-month period:

       $50 (Burglary)   $75 (Panic/Robbery)

  • For each false alarm in excess of eight (8) in the preceding twelve (12) months:
       $100 (Burglary)   $125 (Panic/Robbery)
