Operations Volunteers

The Sacramento Police Department is proud to have a Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) program made up of citizens from our community.

These volunteers augment sworn officers in non-hazardous situations such as bicycle registrations and Bicycle Rodeo/ Helmet Safety program, business emergency contact records, code violations, minor traffic crashes (non-injury/parking lot), directed patrols, disabled vehicles, laser/radar speed surveys, message deliveries, repair-a-grams, road obstructions, school crossing details, special events (concerts, DUI checkpoints), traffic direction, watering violations, welfare checks, and neighborhood patrol in a PT ("PD") Cruiser. A long term commitment of service pays in dividends of pride and experience from working in the field with Sacramento's finest.
