Specialized Units Volunteers

Specialized units are vital to police operations. The Department's Metro Division is comprised of many of these specialized units which are housed at the Richards Boulevard station. In Metro, nearly 100 sworn and civilian personnel carry out a variety of functions from monitoring alcohol permits and licensing, managing the alarm program citywide, and serving as court liason to running the Department's extensive reserves program.

Metro also includes staff dedicated to investigating major collisions as well as monitoring the release of parolees into the community. Several officers from Metro are dedicated to working for the Regional Transit system. DUI prevention, and strategic development, which monitors the development of buildings in relation to crime prevention, are included in Metro. The more visible units of Metro include K9, SWAT, Air Operations, and Traffic (including Motors).

Other specialized units that are part of the downtown core patrol are the Mounted Unit, Bikes, and the Marine Unit.
