Reward Offered in Unsolved Downtown Homicide

The Carole Sund/Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shooting death of Sio Meng Lai.

On Monday, November 26, 2007, at 9:35 p.m., Sio Meng Lai was gunned down in front of his home in the 2100 block of 15th Street. Lai, a 48-year-old restaurant cook, had no known enemies. Despite an exhaustive effort on the part of homicide detectives, and other department personnel, the investigation has yielded few leads.

A press conference will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2008, at Police Department Headquarters (5770 Freeport Boulevard). Representatives from the Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation will be present, as will the investigating homicide detectives and the victim’s family. The conference will start at 9:00 a.m. Media is encouraged to arrive by 8:45 a.m.
