Arrest Made in New Years Day Homicide

On Saturday, February 21, 2009, Detectives arrested 18-year-old Nicholas Moreno for the murder of 20-year-old Kyle Smith.

On Thursday, January 1, 2009, at approximately 1:15 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 400 block of Camellia River Way on the report that someone had been shot. Officers found Kyle Smith suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Sacramento Police Department’s Homicide and Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to the scene. Based on their investigation, it appears that during a New Years Eve party an argument ensued which escalated to a physical fight. During the fight, Moreno pulled out a gun and shot Smith. A photo of Moreno is not being released at this time due to the on going investigation.

The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information pertaining to this crime to contact Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP or (800) AA-Crime. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000
