On March 4, 1983, at 10:30 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the area of El Centro Road, just south of Del Paso Road. A citizen discovered a body floating in the drainage canal at that location. Officers arrived and shortly thereafter, requested the assistance of homicide detectives.
Investigators responded and removed the body from the water. The body was that of a White female in her late 20's. She was 5'3" tall and weighed 167 pounds. She had brown hair and blue eyes. She was wearing heavy layered clothing which suggested she could have been traveling from a region with a colder climate. The victim did not have any identification on her person. An autopsy revealed the victim died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Efforts to identify the victim at that time were met with negative results. A rough sketch of the victim's face was done and placed in local newspapers; however, no one came forward with any indentifying information.
Earlier this year, Cold Case Investigator Pete Willover and Retired Sergeant John Cabrera re-opened this investigation in hopes of identifying the victim and solving the case. A new composite sketch of the victim's face was done, as well as re-examination of evidence for DNA. The findings will be submitted to the FBI.
We are releasing the new composite sketch of the victim's face in hopes that someone will recognize her and we can finally give a name to this victim. We also hope that someone will come forward with information about her murder. Composite sketches are attached.
