Police Investigate New Year's Eve Homicide

On Thursday, December 31, 2009, at 10:07 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 1900 block of Del Paso Road regarding fight involving a large crowd.  Officers arrived and located man lying in the parking lot with gunshot wound(s) to his upper torso.  Emergency medical personnel responded and pronounced him dead at the scene.  The victim's identity is being withheld at this time pending further investigation and notification of his next-of-kin.   The victim, a Sacramento resident, was 21-years-old.

The Sacramento Police Department's Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Unit responded to investigate.  Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances that led up to this murder.  Thus far, the investigation has revealed that a new year's event was in progress at this location.  A fight broke-out inside the establishment that eventually spilled over into the parking lot.  The fight continued in the parking lot at which time the victim was shot.  The participants in the fight were primarily male Blacks in their 20's.
