Police Investigate Late Night Homicide

The Sacramento Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a 53-year-old male.

On Sunday, December 18, 2011, at 00:04 a.m., officers responded to a call of a male shot at eastbound Interstate 80 at Norwood Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a male who had been shot in the upper body. He was transported to the hospital where he was declared deceased.

The Sacramento Police Department's Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Unit responded to the scene.  At this time, detectives are actively investigating the circumstances that led to this homicide. They have yet to identify the suspects or a motive. Very few details are known at this point. Detectives believe the suspects were inside the vehicle when the victims entered the car, at Torland Street and San Juan Road, prior to the shooting. An altercation ensued inside the vehicle while they traveled east on Interstate 80. The victim was shot, and later died, as a result of that altercation. The details of what occurred inside that vehicle are still under investigation.

Anyone with any information or who may have been traveling in the area at the time, is encouraged to come forward.

The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information pertaining to this crime to contact Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
