Arson Covers Body

The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a homicide.

On Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 6:29 a.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Garden Highway on a badly burned body. The fire department had responded at the request of a passing bicyclist who observed what appeared to be leaves burning. The fire was extinguished and the body was reported to law enforcement.

The Sacramento Police Department's Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Investigations Unit and the Sacramento Fire Arson Investigators responded to the scene.  At this time, detectives are actively investigating the circumstances that led to this homicide. Because the body was severely burned, it will likely take several days and alternative methods to make a positive identification of the decedent. The decedent is possibly female but race and age are unknown at this time.

The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information pertaining to this crime to contact the dispatch center at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES).
