Police Investigate Shooting That Leaves Four People Dead

The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a shooting that left four people dead inside of a South Sacramento home.

On Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 10:40 p.m., police responded to the 7600 block of 18th Street regarding a shooting.  Upon arrival, officers discovered a shootout had occurred inside the residence, leaving four people deceased.  The Sacramento Police Department's Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Unit responded to investigate.

Detectives believe that a lone gunman was allowed entry into the home and for reasons unknown, the gunman opened fire with a handgun killing three of the occupants of the home and wounding a fourth person.  A fifth person inside of the home returned fire, killing the gunman.  The wounded occupant was later transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives are still actively investigating the circumstances that led to these shootings as a motive has yet to be determined.  Detectives do however believe that this incident was not a random act and that it is a gang related crime.

The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information pertaining to this crime to contact the dispatch center at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES).
