Police Investigate Homicide

On Friday, February 01, 2013, at approximately 9:44 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 3700 block of Norwood Avenue regarding a deceased subject located inside a burning residence.

Sacramento Fire personnel initially responded to reports of a structure fire at the above location. Upon arrival, firefighters found the apartment fully engulfed in flames. During their efforts to extinguish the flames, firefighters located a male white in his 30's deceased inside the home.

Police were immediately called and responding officers secured the scene. Homicide detectives and CSI were also called out to assist with the investigation.

Detectives believe at this time that the fire was intentionally set by someone other than the victim. The victim sustained multiple traumatic injuries to his upper body. The cause of death continues to be investigated by the coroner and detectives are treating this as a homicide due to the obvious signs of trauma to the victim.

At or about the time the fire started, a male Hispanic in his mid to late 20's was seen leaving the area in an older 4-door Honda Civic. The vehicle reportedly was a model from the 1990's, white in color and missing the front hubcaps.

No one has been arrested in relation to this deadly incident and this continues to be an active and ongoing investigation.

The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information pertaining to this investigation to contact the dispatch center at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
