Man Found Shot

The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one man dead.

On Sunday, July 7, 2013 at approximately 12:59 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 5100 block of Mack Road on a report of a man shot.

Officers arrived and located a white male in his late 40s with a gunshot wound to his upper body. The victim was found at the base of a stairwell near a parking lot of an apartment complex.  The man was not breathing.   Officers began Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation until Sacramento Fire Department medical personnel arrived.  Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injury and died at the scene.

Witnesses told police they saw the victim arguing with a black male adult and then heard a gunshot. There are no apparent ties to the apartment complex and the victim. The motive for this shooting is still unknown and Homicide Detectives are actively working the case.

CSI and the Sacramento Coroner's Office responded to assist in the investigation.  The Sacramento County Coroner's Office will be releasing the victim's identity once next of kin is notified. There is no further releasable information at this time.
